"Last year, I set out to adopt a new dog for my new family. Through Facebook, I found a dog named Kilo who had been in a shelter for almost two years. He was a deaf and blind pit bull and I was told that his personality was diminishing the longer he stayed in the shelter. The shelter was in Los Angeles, CA and I was in Ogden, UT. I contacted the rescue group that represented him and was met with more cooperation than I expected considering that I was so far away. The owner of the rescue was thorough in the approval process. I emailed her pictures of my family, my home, letters from my landlord.
One month later, the shelter owner met us halfway in Reno, NV and we brought home our Kilo. I am a huge believer in this shelter and it’s mission to find great homes for great dogs. No state is too far. Most of the money raised for Paws Crossed Dog Scouts goes towards gas money to transport dogs all over the US. They have found a unique program that works with community shelters, animal rescues, foster families, transporters, and social media networking to bring a new approach to animal adoption."
